Childcare

Children with bleeding disorders have special needs – but they have the same likes and dislikes
as other children! When choosing a childcare program, gather as much information as you can.
Make arrangements to spend time with the prospective caregivers and observe the general
atmosphere and the attitudes of the staff and children.

Consider the following:

• Do staff members have experience in caring for a child with chronic medical conditions?
• What is the center’s reputation in the community?
• Will staff members meet with you and your child’s healthcare provider to learn about your child’s condition?

Naturally, you will want a place where your child will be safe and happy. Once you’ve found a program for your child, make sure:

• To educate the staff about the kinds of injuries you want to be notified about immediately.
• The staff understands your permission is required before any medication is given.
• There is a defined plan for your child in case of a medical emergency.
• Your child’s emergency information is always up to date.
