Factor Storage

Regardless of which factor product your hematologist has prescribed for you it is absolutely essential that you:

1. Become familiar with the manufacturers recommended safety instructions concerning the proper storage of your factor; and
2. Maintain an awareness of the amount of factor and infusion supplies you have at your disposal.
3. Have a minimum of two doses of factor on hand at all times.

While the various manufacturers may have some minor variances in their storage instructions, the following general instructions should always be followed. However, always consult the manufacturer’s instruction insert for complete storage instructions. Severe blood infection can result from infusing factor which has not been properly stored and administered in a timely manner!

• Upon delivery, check all boxes to verify that no bottles have been broken in shipping. If there are broken bottles, call Crescent immediately!
• Factor should be stored in your refrigerator.
• Some brands of factor may be stored for a brief period of time at room temperatures which are not too warm. This should be an exception rather than a regular practice.
• Unless advised to do so by your pharmacist, never store factor in your freezer. Doing so may cause the bottles to break.
• If you have concerns that your factor may have been compromised in storage, contact Crescent, your HTC or hematologist before using the product!
