Travel Precautions

People with bleeding disorders must always be prepared. Call Crescent Healthcare to assist in planning your travel. Your Crescent team can help identify any available local resources in your travel destination.

• Factor concentrates and other bleeding disorder products may not always be readily available. It is important to plan ahead and bring enough of your prescribed product and the medical supplies you will need for your regular treatment regime, plus an extra emergency dose.
• Bring a copy of your current prescription for factor supplies, especially if your trip will include weekend travel.
• Bring a letter from your physician stating your diagnosis, severity and treatment regime.
• For U.S. travel, contact your local hemophilia foundation or HTC to determine the HTC closest to your destination. The National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) publishes a directory
of Hemophilia Treatment Centers. Contact HANDI (Hemophilia and AIDS/HIV Network for the Dissemination of Information) at 1.800.42.HANDI to obtain a copy.
• Pack appropriate containers for the disposal of medical waste.
• Transport your product and supplies in your carry-on bag when traveling by air, bus or train, just in case your checked luggage gets lost or delayed.
• Call ahead to hotels and inquire about in-room refrigeration, or use coolers with ice packs to keep your product at an optimal temperature. Unless advised to do so by your pharmacist, never store your factor product using dry ice. Products packed with dry ice have been known to freeze.
• Carry a list of important contact numbers and make sure someone else knows your travel itinerary.
• Make arrangements to have an adequate supply of factor concentrate on-hand when you return.

Should you ever need products or supplies, no matter where you are, you can always call Crescent Healthcare. We are committed to doing everything we can to help people with
bleeding disorders live life to the fullest.
